The Danish Embassy is looking for Consular Assistant to join the consular section at the embassy. Starting date will be as soon as possible.

You will be working in an exciting and dynamic work environment and you will become part of a busy team. The Danish Embassy consists of 12 high performing colleagues. The position is on local contract, based on the Danish Foreign Service and Colombian Labour Law.

Description of the position:

The Embassy of Denmark in Colombia is hiring a proactive and ambitious new colleague, who will work primarily with general consular matters such as:

  • Receive Residence and work permit applications from Colombian citizens and other nationalities in the region.
  • Receive and process passport applications (ordinary and emergency passports) from Danish citizens in Colombia, Bolivia, Panama and Costa Rica and neighbouring countries.
  • Assist Danish citizens where necessary (pension, incidents, illness, death etc.) according to Danish MFA rules
  • Communication with Danish and other local authorities where the embassy is concurrent.
  • Assist the Consular Section with follow-up of emergency and contingency plans
  • Administration of archives and files in the Consular Section according to MFA systems.
  • Communication regarding general consular matters
  • Besides the consular matters, you will be part of the daily work at the embassy, where you often will be involved in matters that are not necessarily part of your primary area of work.
  • Any other tasks assigned by the head of the Consular Section


We are looking for a proactive team player, who is service-minded and detail oriented with high level of quality and efficiency.

  • Relevant educational background and proven work experience
  • Work experience in other international and public organizations is a strong plus
  • Strong proficiency in Spanish and English, both spoken and written (Danish or other Scandinavian languages are a strong plus)
  • Showing good administration practice, both in your behaviour towards the citizens and regarding the concrete consideration of a case
  • Working experience across cultures
  • Strong knowledge about Latin America society and dynamics is taken into account

Work conditions and Salary

Salary will be agreed according to qualifications and work conditions will follow the Colombian labour laws and Danish Foreign Service rules.

The workweek will be 37 hours, Monday-Friday but flexible in busy periods. Five weeks of vacation.

We require the following documents

  • Cover letter/motivational letter: your motivation for applying for the position
  • CV including picture (in English).
  • Documentation of relevant education and proven work experience.
  • Recommendations and 2 – 3 references with contact information.
  • It is expected that the candidate for the job has applied for a permission to work in Colombia before accessing the position. The Embassy will assist with the documents related to the position.
