Could you envision yourself leading the high-performing commercial team at the Danish Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia? A part from the team-leader the team consists of two full-time commercial advisors and an intern. We work in a high-paced international environment in one of Latin Americas most open and growth-oriented economies. Does it sound attractive to you to lead and be part of such a team, working strategically with a number of the biggest and most important Danish companies in Colombia? Then you might be the person we are looking for.

 

What we expect from you

At the Embassy we cooperate closely with both small and big Danish companies exporting to, operating or investing in Colombia and some of the other countries we cover from the Danish Embassy in Bogotá, i.e. Panama, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Venezuela. As Colombia and the other markets we cover are far away from Denmark and often not easily accessible, the long-term, strategic cooperation with the Danish companies is crucial.

 

We are looking for a strong team player that can combine leadership and strategic direction with sector knowledge and a strong commercial mind-set. In recent years, the commercial work at the Embassy has evolved even more towards global public affairs and strategic advice, with special focus on sustainability. This require a good understanding of interplay between political and commercial dynamics.

 

Former experience as a manager, leading teams, would be a plus for this position. Strong English and Spanish skills are required for the job and knowledge of the Latin American region would be a desirable. Furthermore, prior experience working within our present priority sectors (Health, Energy, Food & Agriculture and Infrastructure & Tech.) would be an asset.

Furthermore we offer: A very competitive salary package, based on qualifications, business travelling to Denmark and the Latin American region, full time employment on a local contract according to standards for local employees of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Colombian labor laws, 37 hours workweek (with flexibility to define working hours), pension scheme, 5 weeks of yearly vacations, and reimbursement of 80% of standard private health insurance.

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities as Head of the Commercial Department

We expect you to lead the commercial team in their efforts to create, develop and continually manage strong relationships with Colombian and Danish public and private stakeholders. Your leadership within stakeholder management will be the foundation of the Embassy servicing the Danish businesses in Colombia and beyond, i.e. by advocating on behalf of Danish companies in many different contexts and situations.

 

We expect you to be able to identify regulatory structures and processes of interest to Danish companies as well as having flair for, and will to, converting commercial opportunities to specific projects and ensuring the execution of these on a team level.

 

The Trade Council at the Danish Embassies performs advisory services against payment from the Danish companies, hence a number of personal and shared KPI’s including value creation and number of invoiceable hours are related to the position.

 

About You

 

  • You have leadership skills and have a talent for prioritizing and setting the strategic direction for the commercial teams’ efforts
  • Relevant university degree, e.g. business degree, political science degree or similar
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment with lots of personal responsibility
  • You enjoy finding solutions – even to difficult situations at hand
  • An empathetic team player with an urge to guide and coach colleagues
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience
  • Fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written)
  • Knowledge of Danish/Scandinavian languages would be an additional asset, but is not a requirement.

The Regional Team at the Danish Embassies in Latin America

The Trade Council is an integral part of the Danish Foreign Service and our Latin American team is based at Danish Embassies and General Consulates in Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, Chile and Argentina. We are organised in sector teams across the region and focus our efforts within the sectors of Health, Energy, Food & Agriculture and Infrastructure & Tech.

Interviews

Selected candidates will be invited for interviews – expected to take place during the end of February. Interviews will be conducted in both Spanish and English.

Expected start

Preferably in March/April 2024 or soon thereafter. Employment will have to pass security clearance by the Danish authorities.
